The goal of the films is to humanize the energy transition. We want to show how we can achieve the targets set by the Paris Agreement. Or at a minimum, bridge the gap.

It’s 2064. The story follows three characters: a farmer, a fisherman, and a scientist. Their memories are filled with fear, pain, guilt, and regret for not acting fast enough.

The farmer: He lost nearly all his fertile land to climate change. A practical man, he still feels comfortable enough to share his feelings with his granddaughter.

The fisherman: Although not directly involved in the energy transition, he talks to his son about the collective efforts that occurred, and reflects on his teenage years, when the transition began.

The scientist: She educates her young students on how close we all came to a climate catastrophe, stressing the importance of knowledge and action.

Despite the shared trauma, the conclusion is optimistic: immediate and bold action by many people resulted in a successful energy transition.

While part I reflects on the future of the energy transition, part II shows the characters in 2064 watching a documentary featuring DNV experts, a climate correspondent, and WWF’s global energy lead. They talk about key themes and success factors.

Chapter 1: Speed & scale – Addresses accelerating the energy transition by shifting to renewables and overhauling the power grid. It also highlights the crucial role of oil and gas in the transition.

Chapter 2: Whole systems thinking – Outlines the need for a comprehensive approach and international collaboration in the energy transition.

Chapter 3: Heroes of the transition – Celebrates individuals driving the transition, stressing trust in science and institutions, and calling for collective action towards a decarbonized future.
